We're in business – the perfect Enterprise companion

We're in business is an ideal resource to deliver an enterprise activity as part of the week. Watch the following online overview to find out more about We're in business:

We're in business is one of four modules in the programme and requires students aged 11–16 to work in teams to simulate a business team setting up and launching their own coffee shop.

Whatever their skills – leadership, dealing with numbers, food guru or a flair for marketing – students can take the personality quiz and find out the role that is right for them. They then work together to work out their finances, menu and marketing strategy and make a final presentation.

The module develops team work, communication, problem solving and action planning skills and enables students to develop and apply skills and qualities for enterprise.

The resource includes:

  • personality and skills quiz
  • video interview of a real business person who has recently opened a coffee shop
  • brief, checklist and guidance for each job role within the team
  • marketing planner interactive
  • full teachers' notes with follow-up activities and activity sheets

The resource is flexible so you can adapt it to suit your students and timetable but here are some ideas for running an enterprise day in your school using We're in business:

  • Launch the event at an assembly. Use the illustrative video as part of the initial briefing and set time allowed for each stage.
  • Students work in small teams in their tutor groups during the morning with teachers as facilitators; students to collaborate and complete individual tasks within their groups.
  • After lunch, give the students time to finalise their coffee shop launch plan and plan their group presentations.
  • Presentations to form tutors.
  • Optional – winning teams to present to some invited judges in the school hall.
